excerpt CHAPTER 20 – THE ADOPTED KIDS

…Reactive Attachment Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, and severe Dyslexia now came to live in our previously normal and peaceful home. Along with them came lying, stealing, sexualized behaviors, violent rages, freeze, fight, and flight. The real parenting in the trenches had begun. In addition to all of this, table manners, health and hygiene routines, “please” and “thank-you” social niceties, and school had to be taught and instilled. It was overwhelming! Thankfully Cary and I were a tag team, our older children didn’t mutiny, and our new kids were such cherubs that forgiveness and mercy came easily—most of the time, anyway….
